Nowadays most of the organizations are getting more and more flatten and lean in structure. This drives more direct communication and cooperation between layers and functions. People are no longer interacting within their function and location, but having more and more cross-departmental or cross-location/region projects and task forces. So, managers or technical experts are now leading and influencing with team members whom they may not have direct authority over or control them.
To be successful managers, project leaders and technical leaders, they must have strong interaction and highly effective influencing skills. They have to know how to get things done with and through people and convince them to accept the extra responsibilities and be fully committed to the team actions and win-win results.
